Classification of Wiki metrics in metric system (old!)
Classification of Wiki metrics in metric system (old!)

In the future SONIVIS supports only dynamic network models. In the recent SONIVIS version we differentiate between static and dynamic collaboration networks (at the moment the Wiki-link network is available only as static visualization).

Our new data model enables that all defined networks are dynamic. Great! But unfortunately it is a long way and now we have to adapt almost all measures besides a lot of other activities.

This page is more or less an internal one to keep the overview on the new metric definition.

Please note: The whole description of all defined measures is based on MediaWiki database layout.

Edit Count

The edit is the number of changes which is made by an actor. This is done by committing a revision. The edit count can be measured for pages: Revision Count, which represents the number of edits on this page, or for authors: Page Edit Count, which represents the amount of edits an actor made on pages.

Summing the amount of edits made on all pages from all authors one can get the Total Page Edit Count. With a network one can border the information space. For this case the measure is called Network Page Edit Count.

Those measures can also be bordered when considering only a certain namespace. Taking the namespace including only articles the measures is called Article Edit Count, Network Article Edit Count, and Total Article Edit Count.

Changed Count

Metrics with the keyword Changed are defined as grouped actions of authors working on pages. For this measure the distinct count of edits for authors or pages are calculated. Concerning the distinct count of authors actions in pages the Page Changed Count measures the number of pages an author worked with. For example an author only worked on one page 10 times the Page Changed Count would be one, but the Page Edit Count would be 10. For the pages the distinct authors which changed a page are measured. Taking the same example as before the page would be changed by one author, so the Author Count would be one, but this author changed this page 10 times, so the Page Edit Count would be again 10.

Is the information space bordered by time the two values Total Page Count and Total Changed Count differ because a page must not be changed in a certain time but can exist in this certain time. But taking the whole information space the Total Page Changed Count is the same as the Total Page Count, since the Total Page Count is the number of existing pages in the information space and they must be at least changed once by any author. The first change of an page is the change for creation (for more see Created Count).

Bordering the information space by namespace, the measures including the article namespace are called Article Changed Count, Network Article Changed Count, and Total Article Changed Count.
